ABOUT

Located in Detroit, Michigan, we were established in 2021. We thank God for bringing us together, and our prayer is that we, as his followers, would be in unity "as one." Currently there are about 30 - 40 of us who attend on Sunday mornings. We meet on the west side, though we live scattered throughout the metro area. We are sons and daughters of God, previously sinners now saved by the grace of God, who sent His Son Jesus to die to give us eternal life. We are disciples of Jesus, and though imperfect, we are growing in Him and seek to serve in His Kingdom. As brothers and sisters in Christ, we are committed to loving each other and communicating through conflicts as we live in unity and peace. We are focused on reaching and welcoming the unsaved and unchurched throughout the metro area. Our goal is to connect people with Jesus, who is doing a beautiful work of reconciliation in the world. We are influenced by Anabaptist theology, aligning with the historic commitment to obey the commandments of Jesus, commitment to non-violence and non-resistance, and love for our enemies. We seek to be culturally sensitive, and warmly welcoming to all people of all backgrounds and ethnicities. We are committed to obeying the Bible. We seek continuous sanctification from God, growing in relationship with Him, being molded by Him and being transformed more and more into His image.

MISSION/VISION

As we love and follow Jesus and are transformed by Him, we love each other and the people of Detroit, connecting them with Him.

Statement of Beliefs

What we believe

Who God Is

We believe in one loving, true, infinite, all-knowing, all-powerful, and omnipresent God.  We believe that He is always good.  We believe that He is faithful, just, merciful, gracious, and holy.  We believe in the unity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as three persons in one Godhead.  We believe that God created all things.  We believe God sent His only begotten Son Jesus to earth where He was born of the virgin Mary, lived a holy life, died for our sins, and was raised back to life on the third day.  We believe that the Holy Spirit dwells within followers of Jesus, and that we as followers are to live Spirit controlled lives.

The Word of God

We believe that the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, is the holy, inspired Word of God.  We believe that all of the Bible is truth, and since it is inspired by God, words that the Holy Spirit speaks to us will not contradict the Bible.  II Timothy 3:16-17 states that “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”  We believe that studying the Bible will help us live in relationship with Jesus, helping us to become increasingly sanctified and transformed into His image.  We believe that we are to joyfully obey the commandments God has given us in Scripture.

Sin and Fallen Man

Created in the image and likeness of God, man, through sin, fell from life to spiritual death. This death passed on all men, because all have sinned. Man is of himself, hopelessly doomed and at enmity against God (Gen. 6:5;  Rom. 5:12;  Eph. 2:3-5).

God’s Way of Salvation

On the cross, Jesus died for our sins and was raised again for our justification.  We are saved by grace alone, and not by our works. Jesus Christ himself is our peace, the only sufficient payment for our sins.  We cannot come to salvation unless the Father draws us, yet each person needs to respond to God’s call by repentance unto salvation.  Repentance is agreement with God of sin committed, a turning of heart and will towards God, with works of obedient faith in Jesus (I Cor. 15:1-4; John 3:16; Romans 10:13; Acts 20:21; I Peter 1:5).

The Kingdom of God

The Kingdom of God and Christ is an eternal kingdom, representing and expressing the character and will of God. The Kingdom of God is revealed in the Person and character of Christ. He stands in conflict against the kingdom of this world, which will pass away. We affirm that the Kingdom of God is to be present within us, it being the substance of our present experience of salvation (II Peter 1:11).  As citizens of the Heavenly Kingdom, we consider ourselves aliens and foreigners here on earth (Heb 11:13; I Peter 2:11).  We believe that as nonresistant Christians, we are not to take part in service within the state or society which would go against Christ’s teachings of love and holiness.  We believe that we are to respect and pray for earthly authorities, pay our taxes, and obey laws as long as they do not conflict with God’s Word (Rom 13:1-7).

Bodily Resurrection and the Second Coming of Jesus

Jesus was raised from the dead on the third day after His death.  When Jesus returns to earth, the dead will be raised.  All will stand before Him and be judged according to his or her deeds.  All will be found guilty of the sins done in this body.  Upon God’s final righteous sentence, the living and the people who previously died without faith toward God through Christ Jesus will be condemned to a literal Hell. Those justified by faith in Jesus will be given everlasting life and will live in Heaven with Him, where there will be joy and rest and no more tears and pain (John 14:1-3; Acts 1:9-11; Daniel 12:2; Matt. 13:50; Matt. 25:41; Rev.14:11; John 14:1-3).

Holy Living

We believe that as disciples of Christ, we are called to a walk of holiness (John 4:23; Gal. 5:22; 23; Heb. 12:14) and to a daily surrender to God (Luke 9:23). This calls us to be separate from the kingdom of this world (Rom. 12:1,2; John 18:36), and to be willing servants in the Kingdom of God (Col. 3:1-3; Matt. 6:33; II Cor. 6:14-18).  Holy living means standing against sexual immorality.  Holy living also means avoiding harmful addictions, and seeking help to find freedom from any addiction.  Members who do not repent and turn from their sin after being lovingly corrected will be removed from membership.  Such members will continue to be loved with the goal of reinstatement.

Nonresistance

We believe God calls us to love rather than to resist our enemies (Matt. 5:39-41; John 18:36; I Cor. 6:1-8; Matt. 5:44-48; Titus 3:2).  We believe this applies to every area of life, including abstaining from participation in military service.

Brotherhood and outreach

We believe that we are called to brotherhood (Rom. 12:5, 10), with a commitment to accountability and openness with each other in the body of Christ (I Cor. 12; Eph. 5:30; Heb. 3:13; I Pet. 5:5), and with love as the controlling factor in all areas (Matt. 5:23), so that the love of God can draw others into the Kingdom of God by the Holy Spirit (John 13:35).  We believe we are called to bear each other's burdens.  Then, out of this call and through a relationship with God, the body is called to fulfill the Great Commission (Matt. 28:19, 20; Ps. 126:6; Mark 16:15).

Stewardship

We believe that everything we have belongs to God, and that we are entrusted as caretakers.  This means that we use our resources to support our families, help each other, help the poor, and further the Great Commission.  We believe that extravagant spending to live a life of luxury is poor stewardship of what God has entrusted to us.

Christian Homes and Modesty

We believe that our homes are to be a testimony of Christ.  We believe that marriage is constituted by one man and one woman (Heb. 13:4, Gen. 2:24), and is to remain unbroken until death (Matt. 5:32).  We believe that remarriage after divorce, while the former spouse is living, is adultery.  We believe that all homosexual relationships are prohibited by God (I Cor 6:9-10; I Tim 1:20).  We believe we are to represent Christ both in expression of heart and in outward appearance with a life of self control, temperance and modesty (I Tim. 2:9, 10; Phil. 4:5).

Symbols of Christian Order

We believe that men and women are to live under God’s design for headship order (I Cor. 11:2, 3), with men uncovered for prayer and prophesying, (I Cor. 11:4), and women covered with their long hair veiled (I Cor. 11:5, 6, 15).

The Ordinances

We believe that we as a church are to embrace the ordinances and their spiritual applications and that they are instituted by God’s divine authority.

  • Baptism upon the confession of our faith as a symbol of the repentance that has taken place within the heart (Rom 6; Matt. 28:19; I Pet 3: 21; Col. 2:12).

  • Communion and feet washing as a symbol of our love for each other (I Cor. 11; John 13:1-17).

  • Anointing with oil as God’s healing power for the sick (James 5:14, 15).
